The Royal College of Pathologists launched National Pathology Year on 12th January 2012; kick-starting a year of pathology-related activities across the country. The year aims to raise awareness of the importance of pathology in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
A range of events including laboratory tours, talks in schools, displays and art exhibitions will be taking place throughout the year. For more details please visit the ilovepathology website at: http://www.nationalpathologyweek.org/events.
Dr Suzy Lishman, Vice-President of the Royal College of Pathologists and National Pathology Year Lead said: "National Pathology Year is a great opportunity for pathologists and scientists across the country to showcase their work and the central role that pathology plays in helping to keep people healthy and ensuring that they get the correct treatment when they are ill. A wide range of events are being planned - there'll be something for everyone. We hope people will visit the ilovepathology website to find out what is happening in their area."
Each month of National Pathology Year has a different theme to reflect the diversity of subjects covered by pathology specialties. These include: Love your Heart in February, Olympic Fever in August and Cancer Screening in October as well as 50 Years of Pathology in June to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Royal College of Pathologists. A photography competition, Pathology in Focus, will also be taking place throughout the year. For further and more information about what pathology involves please visit www.ilovepathology.org .
