What type of training model is in place?
Team-based working with a Consultant-Registrar-Year 1 "Firm" structure
What are the block teaching arrangements i.e. number of blocks per year?
Three block teaching weeks per year and an extra cytology week
Which other schools participate?
The Southern Cluster (Wales, South West and Southampton) and sometimes Central.
What are the typical subjects covered? (subject to amendment on a year by year basis)?
Slide seminars and lectures in Urological, Lymphoma, ENT, Gynae, Colorectal, Hepatobiliary, Autopsy Pathology and Cytopathology
What usually happens during Induction week?
Trust and Departmental Induction Days including orientation tours and seminars.
Do you have additional training days and if so, what?
ST1's spend 9 days at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, attending tutorials, lectures or practical sessions including basic techniques such as cut-up. There is also 4 weeks of Specialty Attachments at the John Radcliffe, which the ST1s attend (see "Rotations" for further details)
