Supplementary Information
Audit and Research
All trainees are required to undertake audit projects. These are presented at local meetings and, if appropriate, at national meetings such as the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland.
There are many research opportunities available in histopathology although it is not essential for trainees to undertake a research project during ST1.
Teaching opportunities
All medical staff takes part in the teaching of medical undergraduates during the Mechanisms of Disease module. Teaching opportunities are also available in special study modules such as the Biology of Cancer.
Learning Opportunities
Most training takes place through direct consultant supervision of trainees' work. FRCPath training sessions are held regularyly and ST1 trainees' are encouraged to attend them where possible.
