East of England: Cambridge and Norwich
The Eastern Region Histopathology training school is now in its 6th year, with up to 8 Year 1 trainees shared between the two sites which make up the school - Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrooke’s Hospital) and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (N&N).
The historical but yet modern and vibrant cities of Cambridge and Norwich host the ST1 training school, with the ST2-5 rotation encompassing the wider East Anglian region.
School of Clinical Medicine was established at
its current form on the Addenbrooke's campus in 1976, with the
clinical school building itself being opened in 1980.
However, the teaching of medicine in Cambridge has much older roots
with the endowment of the University's first Professorship of
Physic, Dr John Blyth by Henry VIII in 1540. The current dean
is Dr Diana Wood.
In contrast, the medical
school in Norwich is a new and very modern development,
established in 2002, with the first students graduating in
2007. The current dean is Professor Samuel Leinster.
