How many training sites in the School?
Four
How many Year 1 trainees are in the School?
Up to 8
If a multi-site centre, is there a rotation between sites and how much time is spent at each?
Depends on number of occupants of the Year 1 training posts.
What are the block teaching arrangements ie number of blocks per year?
3 blocks per year, 1st in Bristol (national block week), 2nd in Oxford, 3rd in Southampton.
Which other schools participate?
Oxford, London, Southampton, Wales.
What are the typical subjects covered (subject to amendment on a year by year basis)?
Bristol core teaching: Introduction to Autopsy, Health & Safety, Lab organisation and external and internal quality assurance, Introduction to surgical pathology, Introduction to Paediatric Pathology, Introduction to Perinatal Pathology, Gynae Pathology, Cervical Cancer screening Programme, Upper and Lower GI, Breast pathology, Non-gynae cytology, Lymphoreticular System, Urologic Pathology, Basic microscopy.
Do you have additional training days, and if so, what?
The trainees from the two Bristol hospitals have joint fortnightly training sessions. All the trainees are invited to attend the monthly training sessions with the SpRs.
