Surgicals
"We get into work at 9am. If we're rostered to do cut-up, we go to the lab and spend up to 2 hours cutting up arge and small specimens. After cut-up, we spend time looking at the slides which have come from specimens we've cut-up over the past few days. there may be a lunchtime meeting or MDT, then in the afternoon we continue looking at the slides, then go over all of our reports with a consultant".
Post mortems
When on the post mortem attachment, we get into work at 9am and find out from the mortuary if there are nay post mortems scheduled for that day. If there's something suitable we go down to the mortuary and carry out the post mortem under the supervision of a consultant. This takes approximately 3 hours. In the afternoon, we'll write the post mortem report, and look at the histology of previous cases."
